Title : The Ritual
Author: Shantel Tessier
My Rating: 🌟🌟1/2
Genre: Contemporary Romance Fiction
Primary Characters: Ryat and Blake
Narration: Dual POV
I LOVED the premise of this book. I couldn’t resist waiting till the release day. So, I picked up first few chapters from Hallowed Night anthology. It seemed rushed yet, I was hoping it would be better in full length book. However, I was very disappointed. The dark and mysterious cover lured me. This story had SO MUCH potential, but it was more focused on Smut than on other aspects.
Plot revolves around Blake and Ryat. As the blurb says Ryat is a member of secret society called LORD and Blake is a grad student. She is his chosen one, and vows to serve him as he vows to protect her while they’re together. Things aren’t simple.
The premise was so promising, but it wasn’t executed well. This book is more smut than action, plot or emotion. The supposed suspense/mystery was not really there. Blake is complaining about having her whole life decided and controlled then next she gives complete control and trust to stranger. Book turned interesting at middle but soon it was replaced with drama and smut.
Relationship development is zero. They just jump from being 0 to 1000 in seconds. Initial part of book had some promising secondary characters later they felt like worst sort of friends. Writing style was ok but narration was more of inner monologue and I had hard time to connect. I couldn’t find any highlighting characteristics of protagonists.
Overall, very disappointing. Somehow this book was just not for me. Read for yourself and let me know your thoughts.

THE CHOSEN ONE
I vow. You vow. We vow.
Barrington University is home of the Lords, a secret society that requires their blood in payment. They are above all—the most powerful men in the world. They devote their lives to violence in exchange for power. And during their senior year, they are offered a chosen one.
People think growing up with money is freeing, but I promise you, it’s not. My entire life has been planned out for me. I never got the chance to do what I wanted until Ryat Alexander Archer came along and gave me an option for a better life. He offered me what no one else ever had—freedom.
I chose to be his. He made me believe that anyway, but it was just another lie. A way that the Lords manipulate you into doing what they want.
After being sucked into the dark, twisted world of the Lords, I embraced my new role and allowed Ryat to parade me around like the trophy I was to him. But like all things, what started out as a game soon became a fight for survival. And the only way out was death.
